it's a saying long taken for granted,
steeped in the mystery of science,
and the aura of the bigger brain:
"objects at rest tend to stay at rest".
but "rest" is a notion of perfection
that can never be achieved:
we are always moving, we
as people, as rocks, we as
the ocean and the sky and the
atoms and we planets and
we stars-
all of us move, for
as a lesser known saying goes:
"Every object with mass
exerts a gravitational pull on every other massive object".
we pull each other closer, even as we push apart,
these are nature's laws, not ours.
it may prove a hindrance to us
when we wish to escape our lives by jumping
or, at the very least,
by dancing on the ceiling.
but it is a comfort to know that
were we a universe away
there would still be something that binds us together.
